"Every child deserves the opportunity to learn, grow and dream — hearing or not. We give wings to those dreams."
Late Dr. Dattatraya Shivram Erram (Baba)
Late Smt. Shilatai Dattatraya Erram
The story of Dr. D. S. Erram School for Deaf is rooted in compassion, empathy, and a deep sense of social responsibility. The vision for the institution was inspired by an experience that deeply affected Dr. D. S. Erram.
A close friend’s family member experienced severe hearing loss and, at a time when awareness, educational support, and opportunities for people with hearing loss were limited, faced social isolation, stigma, and restricted opportunities.
Witnessing these challenges firsthand deeply moved Dr. Erram. It strengthened his determination to create an environment where deaf students could receive quality education, develop their abilities, gain confidence, and build a future with dignity and independence. This vision became the foundation of the institution and continues to guide its work today.
The journey began in a single rented room within a local municipal school — driven by courage, conviction, and a vision for a better future for deaf students.
The institution was formally structured as Dr. D. S. Erram Society for Physically Handicapped and expanded its educational activities to Saidapur, Karad.
Today, the institution continues to build upon the vision and legacy of Dr. D. S. Erram and Smt. Shilatai Dattatraya Erram — working towards a future where every student, regardless of hearing ability, has access to education, respect, opportunity, and the confidence to fulfil their potential.

This school gave my daughter a voice — literally. She completed Class 10, learned tailoring, and now earns independently. We had no hope before, and today she is our pride.

I was afraid my son would never be able to study. But the teachers here understand him completely. He passed his SSC with 72% and joined a polytechnic. I cannot thank them enough.

I attended this school for 10 years. The teachers taught me sign language, helped me speak, and trained me in computers. Today I work at a BPO and support my family. This school changed everything.
